If you snore, you’ve probably been in search of a cure for quite some time. Snoring is an annoying and somewhat embarrassing condition that nearly half of the population is afflicted with. And the other half simply sleeps next to the snorers!
Of course, there are a lot of invasive treatments and procedures out there that will help you stop snoring, but what if you don’t want to put yourself through surgery or to have to sleep with an appliance? Well, there are some natural snoring remedies as well. These should always be among the first offensive steps anyone takes to cure their snoring woes. After all, if there is a natural cure that works, why would you want to try anything else?
- Change your habits - This one is really easy to say, but another thing altogether to do. There are certain habits that you might be engaging in that are bad for your health in many ways. Snoring is just one of them, but if you want to cure your problem naturally, you’ve got to give this a shot.
- Stop smoking. Smoking causes inflammation that can restrict the flow of air to and from your lungs. This can cause snoring, and in more serious cases, sleep apnea.
- Stop overeating. Obesity is a very common cause for snoring and sleep apnea. Extra weight around your neck really puts pressure on your throat, which can cause you to snore.
- Limit consumption of alcohol. A few drinks every once in awhile won’t do much harm, but you really need to try and limit consumption before bedtime if you’d like to stop snoring. Alcohol can aggravate a snoring problem.
- Sleep on your side – It has been proven that people who sleep on their sides are much less likely to snore than people who sleep on their backs. This is because your jaw is much less likely to fall back and put pressure on your airway.
- Have some tea and honey – Honey is a natural lubricant that will coat your throat. The reduced friction will help your chances of sleeping through the night without that noisy sleeping disorder.
- Drink your fluids – Research has shown that our nasal secretions are stickier when we are dehydrated. This makes it much more likely that we will snore. Take care not to drink too much, though, or your sleep will be interrupted by bathroom breaks, somewhat defeating the purpose.
- Keep it clean – You’ll want to frequently wash your bed linens and change your pillows. This is going to sound gross, but it will help keep the dust mite population to a minimum. If you might have a dust mite allergy, this can be extremely important. Your allergy could be the entire cause of your snoring.
It’s good to note that while snoring can be a nuisance, there are many ways to go about treating it. You don’t have to live the rest of your life as a noisy sleeper. There are options. Start with the natural snoring remedies, and if those don’t work, you can always talk to your doctor about other remedies.
